The paintings.
Best known for her sculptures, Gite iEMFré also creates paintings and mixed-media works. Across these series, she explores small moments of happiness, social issues and new ways of working with materials.
Le Spectateur (The Spectator)
A visual and sound installation comprising six artworks brings happy seaside scenes face to face with the tragedies experienced by migrants. Clay, paint, relief and a soundtrack question our role as spectators of these coexisting realities.

Seabed pollution and overfishing
A series devoted to seabed pollution and overfishing. Fish and textured materials give shape to reflections on how we exploit the oceans and what we leave behind. In one artwork, a multitude of sardines appear to escape from their tin.
Small moments of happiness at the beach
Small beach scenes capture the simple pleasures of holidays and shared moments. This series was shown in an exhibition devoted to happiness.
Small moments of happiness in the mountains
Echoing the beach scenes, these figures evoke small moments of happiness in the mountains, in the snow and on the ski slopes.
Ceramic artworks
Each ceramic element is made individually, then assembled on a panel using resin. Like the pieces of a puzzle, the fragments come together to form an artwork in relief.
Animals in painting
The animals familiar from Gite iEMFré’s sculptures find their place here in painted compositions.
A tribute to Pierre Soulages
A personal tribute to Pierre Soulages: black paint and thick layers of material meet the artist’s animal world.
The cows of the Aubrac
Cows from the Aubrac, the region where the artist now lives, are portrayed in a monochrome blue palette.
Life and death
Created using modelling paste, this colourful series explores life and death through sperm cells, egg cells and vanitas imagery. The textured material gives movement and energy to the compositions.
Words and social events
DSK, Fukushima, 9/11, Karcher, MDR and Love: words and events become the subjects of textured artworks, with shapes and hollows reminiscent of the sculptures. The Fukushima artwork uses paint that absorbs light and reveals its text in the dark.
Birds and ceramic droplets
This poetic series combines paint, modelling paste and ceramic droplets collected after the sculptures are fired. These fragments become touches of colour around small birds.
